Early Life
The Roots
Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Hussam succeeded to join Damascus University – Faculty of Architectural Engineering after graduating from IBN KHALDOUN high school.
The influence of the authenticity and resilience of the oldest inhabited city in the world, complemented by an academic focus on urban planning, greatly fueled his passion to create an impact at the intersection between the physical and the human aspects of the city.

The Metropolis
In the early 2000s, Hussam moved to Dubai, UAE, Where he is still based to date. Since then, he played various roles in Dubai’s transformation to a modern-day metropolis, which equipped him with a deep understanding of cities’ strategies and the mega real estate projects dynamics.
Hussam served as a senior executive at some of the world’s leading companies in Real Estate and consumer-facing industries like Emaar Properties PJSC, Emaar Shopping Malls, Majid Al Futtaim Properties and Al Ghurair Investment in addition to key role as senior advisor to the Urban Planning Council in Abu Dhabi, advising on city planning and real estate strategies and policies.

Combining an early life passion for cities’ science and more than 20 years of City and Real Estate Development projects has led Hussam to pursue his executive education at Harvard University – Graduate School of Design where he completed his Advanced Management Development Program in Real Estate.
His thesis titled "Post Conflict Transformation and Cities Reconstruction" brought together his invincible sense of duty, passion, expertise and academia.

Today, Hussam Raouf acts as an advisor to national and cities' governments, private developers and public sectors around the world. He is also Member of the Board of various listed and private companies, a lecturer and regular speaker at global conferences and institutes.
